Shannon Clark, there are plenty of ways the MOOC could be improved, but I want to focus here on the in-person course. The videos actually make it much easier for students who miss class sessions to catch up. That’s the basic content delivery, and it’s available 24/7.

You’re surely right that expectation management plays a significant role in the evaluations. But that begs the question: How does one set expectations? I described the flipped format at length on the syllabus, and spent a good chunk of the first week explaining it in class. If something is unfamiliar, it’s unfamiliar.
